Whether you prefer a light, full bodied, or a strong brew, making a satisfying cup of tea doesn’t have to be rocket science #gongfucha. Think of it as a ritual akin to your daily workout and it becomes as easy as 1-2-3!
You’ll need:
3+ gram tea (full bodied) or 5+ gram (strong brew)
200 ml pure water
teapot and cup(s)
1. The Warm-up
Bring water to a boil.
Add 3g to 5g tea leaves to vessel.
Rinse leaves by pouring boiling in and out of the vessel.
*Gong Fu tip #1: Pour hot water over teapot and cups to bring them to temperature.
2. The Workout
Pour 200ml boiling water and put lid on.
Set timer to 5 minutes and Go!
Note: Oolong tea leaves are more robust than green tea and require water temperature upwards of 94 degrees, a boil does the trick.
*Gong Fu tip #2: Making the perfect cup is all about balance. The three main variables in your control are the amount of tea leaves, the amount of water, and the infusion length.
3. The Cool Down
Pour tea into a secondary vessel or cup(s).
Let it cool down for a minute or two.
Enjoy!
*Gong Fu tip #3: You’ll want a second infusion at a minimum, and you might go for a third one as well. Add more tea to the initial infusion to make the pleasure last.
